Fine and Rare Chinese 19th Century Purple Duan Inkstone, the top surface with an original flake to the center for grinding and a water well shaped as a fan, the reverse with a wide rectangular foot and an inscription in sharp calligraphy, with a polished black wood low stand on 4 feet and a shallow polished black wood cover each carved from a solid piece of wood. Depth of stone 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm.) X height of stone 6 1/4 inches (16 cm.).

Light wear with a few small flakes to stone edges, the black wood base and cover with shrinkage cracks along the grain.
