Item Details
Description
Late 18thC Tibetan Copper Buddha with some parts cast out of bronze (bowl, hands, forearms). I have several others of this type gathered over 20 years (see other listings). I saw 2 very closely related pieces at Sotheby's some time ago--they described them as being part of a mandala. Beautiful! Figure is 6 7/8 inches, height of attached mounting covered with Victorian era velvet made for hanging is 8 5/8 inches. The custom frame measures 17 3/4 inches x 15 1/4 inches. This is a particularly good example, with a nice patina that retains gilding on the face and blue in the hair. These vary widely in quality--the detail work is excellent and the face is quite beautiful. It is only the second example I have seen on an early mounting. The modern frame was custom (and very expensively) made for another piece (lined with Thai silk), but it ended up looking better with this piece so I made a switch. It is currently hung on a pin but could easily be switched out for any kind of hook.
