NAME: Train Station Scene

BIOGRAPHY:
Painter, graphic artist.Born in the family of the lithographer A. A. Kasatkin and a peasant serf. He received his first artistic skills at home under his father. In 1873 he entered the MUZhViZ, studied with V. G. Perov, I. M. Pryanishnikov, A. K. Savrasov. In 1878 for "Study of an old woman" and in 1882 for a drawing with small silver medals. In 1883, for the large painting "Beggars in the Church Square", silver medals were awarded and the title of class artist was awarded.From 1878 he taught at the printing house school of the Society for the Distribution of Useful Books, in 1884-1894. - at the Art School by the printing house of the partnership "I. D. Sytin and Co. From 1894 until the revolution of 1917, he collaborated with Sytin's publishing house as an artist.In 1893 he was awarded the title of academician. In 1894-1918 he taught at MUZhViZ.Since 1890, he regularly exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers (until 1910, with interruptions) and the Society for Contemporary Art, in 1891 he became a member of the Association (until 1922). Several paintings from the TPHV exhibitions were purchased by P. M. Tretyakov. In the 1890s, he became close friends with Leo Tolstoy, often visited the estate of the writer Yasnaya Polyana, and was influenced by his ideas on his work. In 1894, he took part in the work of the First Congress of Russian Artists and Art Lovers, and was elected to the Council of the Congress. In 1900, for the painting "In the Corridor of the District Court" he was awarded a silver medal at the World Exhibition in Paris. In 1903 he was elected a full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg.Repeatedly made creative trips to Russia. In 1887 he traveled along the Volga, from 1891 to 1901 he annually traveled to the region of the Donetsk mines, in 1894 he visited the Caucasus, in 1898 he made a trip to the Urals, in the 1900s he traveled to the peat extraction of the Ivanovo-Voznesensk region and to the textile enterprises of the Moscow region. In 1893 he visited Paris and Berlin, from 1901 visited Italy every year, in 1907-1917 he traveled to Turkey, England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavian countries.
