Description
Three Philadelphia, PA Bow-Back Windsor Chairs. Appears to be the original red paint with gold highlights. Bamboo-turned nine spindle-backs with saddle seats. One armchair and two side chairs. All are inscribed on a tag under seats "Dr. John Watson (MD) and Margaret Clemson Married July 25th, 1784. Their Parlor chairs at Donegal Home". Provenance: Sam Stayer Estate, Mt. Joy, PA, Birmingham, AL. For similar examples see "The Windsor style in America" by Charles Santore, page 123. Armchair seat height 17-1/2", 37-1/2" overall. Condition: Good with expected wear. Side chairs have cracked and repaired seats. (19th century repairs).
