A BLUE AND WHITE 'PHOENIX AND DRAGON' BLEU DE HUE VASE, LATE QING DYNASTY
China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century. The blue and white bottle vase depicting a four clawed dragon and phoenix flying amid lingzhi clouds, the neck with a metal mounting.
Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family after 1990 and has remained in the family ever since.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, light surface scratches, and manufacturing imperfections.
Weight: 605.2 g
Dimensions: Height 23.3 cm
Chinese blue and white porcelain such as this, was manufactured for the export to Vietnam and was mainly exported during the 18th and 19th century until after the revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. At the end of the 19th century metal rims were popular, to protect the rim from damages.
