Description
Original Mid Century Modern Gingham Vernonware Pitcher created by Vernon Kilns, California, plaid "Organdie" design with a green rim and handle, green and yellow stripes, marked on the bottom, "Under Glaze Hand Painted. Gingham. Vernonware. California, USA." This mark was in use 1937-1958.
The pitcher [or jug] is 8.1/2" [21.6cm] tall; 7.1/2" [19cm] wide from handle to spout; no chips, no glaze cracks, no hairlines, very good / fine condition.
Vernonware was a popular pottery line produced by the Vernon Kilns company from Vernon, California in the 1930s through the 1950s. Vernon Kilns went out of business in 1958 and its molds and patterns were acquired by Metlox Pottery. Metlox produced some of the Vernon Kilns patterns as well as new patterns under a "Vernonware by Metlox" mark until Metlox went out of business in the 1970s.
