Description
CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE IMPORT SIGNED ISAAC & CO. CAVALRY SABER, English Pattern 1853, almost straight 34 1/2" blade stamped "ISAAC & CO" on broad back and with single, unstopped 24" fuller on either side, iron three-branch guard, original checkered-leather grips riveted to the tang of the blade with five small rivets, retains original washer pad. With original iron scabbard having two ring mounts, throat collar retains both small set screws, strong drag. Purchased by the Confederate government from Isaac, Campbell & Co., London, England. 1861-1865. 41 1/4" LOA.
Provenance: From the collection of H. C. Stuart and Emily Cochran, Stuart House, Staunton, VA. Property descended in the family of Archibald Stuart (1757-1832).
Catalogue Note: Discovered in the attic of the Stuart House in Staunton, Virginia, the present saber was undoubtedly used by a member of the Stuart family during the Civil War.
Provenance: From the collection of H. C. Stuart and Emily Cochran, Stuart House, Staunton, VA. Property descended in the family of Archibald Stuart (1757-1832).

Condition
Very good attic-found condition, grips with some surface losses to one side, expected scattered light rust to metal parts, scabbard with one strike dent above drag.
