Mr. Peanut Hamilton penny scale
Item Details
Description
Very rare Mr. peanut figural penny scale, made by Hamilton. Fully functional and appears accurate. Minor paint wear but over all very good condition. This scale has been in a private collection since the early 80's so it's about as fresh to the market as it gets. Bid with confidence as this is definitely an original! Please verify auction location for pick up.*** To help answer any questions. The base of the scale, and his legs are cast iron. The body, arms, and hat are cast aluminum. This is how they were made. The reproduction scales were made by making a mould from an original. In the re-casting process the metal shrinks slightly which leaves the new scale smaller than an original. We have access to a verified original as well a verified reproduction to confirm measurements. For example: The circumference of the brim of the hat on an original is 39 3/8" on the reproduction it is 38 1/2" This scale measures 39 3/8" . As you can see there is an unmistakable difference. Also on the inside there are two vertical steel pieces of angle iron for support. These should have a 3 digit number stenciled on them starting with a number 5. This would be the serial number. This particular scale is number 562. I hope this information helps. I don't claim to know everything, but I personally specialize in Mr. Peanut/Planters Peanut collectibles, and have done my research. If you have any questions please ask.
