Inlaid Mahogany Wardrobe
South Carolina 1790-1800, Inlaid broken-arch dentil-molded pediment and cornice, five interior slides, the lower case with four dovetailed drawers with banded and highly figured facings, set on original bracket feet, white pine secondary, 94 x 51-3/4 x 24-3/4 in.. Condition: excellent condition overall, brasses replaced, some patches and repairs to veneers on foot facings, minor patch to one corner of door. Notes: Recorded by MESDA, Research File S8745.
Literature: Illustrated in Rauschenberg and Bivins, [The Furniture of Charleston 1680-1820,] Volume 2, Figure NC-20, and in John Bivins, "The Convergence and Divergence of Three Stylistic Traditions in Charleston Neoclassical Case Furniture, 1785-1800", in [American Furniture],1997.
