Description
A Cypriot Style museum copy of a Cypriot terracotta horse and rider, H: 7 in (18cm), L: 4 1/8 in (10.5cm). The original resides in the British Museum with the description 'Terracotta figure of horse and rider; hand-made; horseman has large nose and chin and wears a conical cap with ear-flaps; horse has long slender legs and neck, exaggerated mane with noticeable forelock and topknot, and a relief-moulded tassled breast-plate; black, red and purple painted decoration on horse's body; posture of horse suggests a galloping motion; head of rider has been re-attached'. It was excavated at Kourion, site E, tomb 59, and dates to c. 600-475 BC. Collection number written on the horse's belly.
