Description
A Very fine ChengHua Chinese Ming Dynasty porcelain lidded jar, stoutly potted in globular body, gently tapered toward the flat base, bulbous to the shoulder, with low straight neck to the wide opening. Having simply bud finial atop the slightly domed cylindrical lid. The exterior decorated with DouCai design, fine cobalt blue drawing lines filled with soft polychrome underglaze of pale yellow vigorous dragon amidst soft-green underglaze flames and clouds. Banded numerously around rim, neck, shoulder, and foot with auspicious patters, including ruyi, lappets, key fret, and LiShui cresting waves.
Mark on base, an underglaze blue script -KaiShu- character; Tian (a ChengHua Reign Mark).
Dimensions: 5-1/2" H x 6" Dia.
PROVENANCE: From New York Estate Sales and Auctions Near The Hudson, 1928. The same collections can be found from Lot-269 through Lot-322.
Mark on base, an underglaze blue script -KaiShu- character; Tian (a ChengHua Reign Mark).
Dimensions: 5-1/2" H x 6" Dia.
PROVENANCE: From New York Estate Sales and Auctions Near The Hudson, 1928. The same collections can be found from Lot-269 through Lot-322.
