Item Details
Description
Chinese Tibetan gilt bronze plaque Buddha deity figure of Garuda; posed as if in flight and established on a hand-carved hardwood pedestal. The Garuda is known as the king of birds within the Indian mythology. Garuda is yet another form in which various buddhas arise for removing disease and injury caused by nagas and poisoning. Its head is crowned with a jewel and two large horns jut upward before the deity hairline. Wings outstretched, and legs spread wide to form a dominant appearance. Underside with incised quatrefoil flora-form petal visvavajra surrounding the centralized DaiJi.
Mark on reversed side, incised scripts.
