A Chinese carved bamboo brush pot
Qing Dynasty
Decorated with a scene of Literary Gathering at the Orchid Pavillion, inscribed and signed Qing Qi shanren
height 5 1/4in (13.4cm)Provenance: Sothebys London, A Private Collection of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, December 5, 1995, lot 465.Footnote: A related example is illustrated Ip and Tam, Chinese Bamboo Carving, pt., I, 1978, pl. 79 carved with a similar scene and signed Qing Qi shanren zuo.
Condition
With a rich warm reddish brown color to surface. Carving quite crisp. With three cracks running up from foot and a number of smaller, tigher cracks. General marks, nicks and scratches notably to rim. With an old burn mark to rim.
