(9) A SET OF NINE PLAIN LANGUAGE FROM TRUTHFUL JAMES [THE HEATHEN CHINEE] - 1870 SET OF LITHOGRAPHED ILLUSTRATIONS AS “THE HEATHEN CHINEE”.H659. Complete set (lacking only original printed envelope) of nine 7x5-inch lithographed illustrations of Bret Harte’s poem published earlier same year in the Overland Monthly (see preceding entry) about a wily Chinese card-player, popularly known – especially to American racists - as “The Heathen Chinee”. Plates pasted to modern stiff cardboard. Artist or Maker: [Harte, Bret] Illustrated by Joseph Hull Date: 1870 Condition Report: Lightly foxed and yellowed; very good. Exhibited: Chicago Domestic shipping (48 states): $35.H659. Chicago Domestic shipping (48 states): $29.H648.
