Description
A pair of English / Dutch copper and brass etched tobacco boxes, 18th century. One box depicts two scenes of a courting couple within a lake landscape setting on the lid and the bottom of the box. The second box depicts two scenes of a courting couple in a tavern setting on the lid and the bottom of the box. Each panel flanked with an etched scrolling leaf motif. Indistinct Dutch writing beneath each scene. The side of the second box reads: Charles Bolton, 1754 (possibly referencing Charles Paulet, 3rd Duke of Bolton, 1685-1754). Each box measuring 5-3/8" x 2.25" x 1-5/8" high.
