ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE PEARLWARE DANCING BEAR AND SAVOYARD CERAMIC FIGURAL GROUP, each standing on oval base with tree bocage to back, featuring a bear on hind legs with outstretched paws, a small lion to center, and a figure holding a club in left hand and wearing a cape with an elaborate hat, decorated in the round. First quarter 19th century. 8 3/4" HOA.
Having some imperfections including lacking rope/chain between figure and bear, minor chip to bocage, minor flakes to base edge, with some areas of restoration including club and bear ears, and some losses to flower on bocage.
Literature: Parallels Schkolne - People, Passions, Pastimes, and Pleasures: Staffordshire Figures, 1810-1835 p. 117.
Provenance: From the James Dunn collection, Springfield, VT.
