American Renaissance Revival Rosewood Three-Piece Parlor Suite, Attributed to John Jelliff, Newark, New Jersey, third quarter 19th century, comprised of a sofa with a carved, crowned female mask centered in the back crest and surrounded by foliate scrolls, the padded end sections of the back having carved mythological animal heads at each corner, and carved lady's heads at the arm fronts, h. 47", w. 78", d. 31", and a pair of side chairs with similar carved masks, h. 41", w. 22", d. 21", all pieces with turned trumpet-form legs.
Condition
The sofa has some looseness to the left arm. There is a metal strap screwed across the joint on the back side of the sofa where the left arm joins the back. Another metal strap across the joint where the left side back joins the center back. And a similar brace across the back side of the right arm where it joins to the back. No sign of any losses. The springs are fine. Both side chairs are in fine overall condition.
